Job Summary:
The Warsaw office deputy director partners with the office director on programming strategy and cultivation of policy and funder networks for GMF in Poland. The deputy director brings his/her expertise on Russia, Ukraine and Belarus to the partnership and ensures that the office’s work aligns with and supports GMF’s broader strategic priorities, including by balancing convening and original research. Along with the office director, the deputy networks with decision-makers from the political and business sectors and accompanies GMF executives or American guest speakers to important bilateral meetings with Polish counterparts
The deputy will serve as the main adviser of the director. The deputy will help gather information from the rest of the team and partners of GMF to design the programmatic and fundraising strategy of the office and assist the director in implementing both
The deputy director is responsible for advising on the day-to-day work of the Warsaw office team and for executing programming in Warsaw. The deputy also works with the office manager and office director to oversee preparation of budgets for the office and general HR and administrative issues
This position will entail:
- Developing programs and funding opportunities for GMF’s work on transatlantic policy toward Russia and Europe’s eastern neighborhood
- Conducting research work on transatlantic policy toward Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. Publishing policy papers and articles both for GMF and other think tanks/research centers, and providing analyses for the Polish, European and U.S. media (press, tv and radio interviews…)
- Managing a variety of projects related to transatlantic policy toward Russia, from the intellectual design of the initiative to fundraising and final implementation (papers series, workshops, private meetings). Participating in all Warsaw office’s activities, and helping the office director develop and implement a strategy for GMF’s representation in Warsaw
- Leading the development and implementation of the program’s outreach efforts, and traveling domestically and internationally to events and meetings, including fundraising events, at the request of the director
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (in order of importance):
- Management of Warsaw office projects and people on transatlantic policy toward Russia, and Europe’s eastern neighborhood (e.g. fundraising, event agendas and participants, coordination of external facing communications with GMF teams from Editorial/Publications and Communications, relations with partners
- Active participation in developing the strategy and desired outcomes of events and coordination and communication with corresponding team on execution
- Research and analysis work on transatlantic policy toward Russia (publication of articles, presentations at conferences, private briefings for partners, interviews/writing for transatlantic media)
- Development of the Warsaw office – conceptualizing events, building GMF’s network in Warsaw, advising on the division of tasks within the Warsaw team
- Conceptualize itineraries and events for board members and executive team members while cooperating and brainstorming with other GMF offices and programs
